Some children thrive in traditional classrooms.

And some children slowly begin to disappear inside them.

The child who feels overwhelmed by constant noise and pressure.

The child who struggles to sit still for hours at a desk.

The child with big feelings.

The deeply sensitive child.

The child who learns through movement, curiosity, creativity, and hands-on exploration.

The child who feels different.

The child struggling to make friends.

The child who no longer feels safe, seen, or inspired inside conventional learning environments.

Wild + Rooted was created for those children.

This is a safe, supportive, nature-immersed educational space with small group class sizes where children are invited to learn, create, explore, regulate, express, connect, and grow in a way that honours who they truly are.

Blending Ontario curriculum expectations with experiential, hands-on, creative learning, children are given the opportunity to engage with education in a way that feels meaningful, embodied, and alive.

At Wild + Rooted, learning is not separated into rigid boxes.

Science becomes nature exploration, ecosystems, weather observation, animal tracking, gardening, water systems, and connection to and care for the natural world.

Technology becomes creativity, innovation, photography, design thinking, mapping, problem solving, and hands-on discovery.

Engineering becomes shelter building, nature structures, collaborative projects, experimentation, and real-world challenges.

Art becomes a language. Through nature art, storytelling, journaling, sketching, collaborative creation, and imaginative exploration, children are encouraged to express themselves freely and authentically without fear of judgment or perfection.

Math becomes movement, measurement, pattern recognition, estimation, mapping, building, sorting, counting, and practical application woven naturally into experience.

This program intentionally weaves mindfulness, emotional awareness, movement, and nervous system support into the rhythm of the day as part of creating a calm, connected, respectful learning environment.

In a world that often asks children to move faster, perform more, and suppress what they feel, Wild + Rooted offers something different.

A space where children can exhale.

A space where they can be supported not only academically, but emotionally and socially as well.

A space where kindness, respect, inclusion, and belonging are foundational.

A space where children are not shamed for sensitivity.

Not rushed through emotions.

Not reduced to behaviour management.

Not expected to fit one narrow definition of success.

Wild + Rooted is not about forcing children into learning.

It is about helping them reconnect to it.

Our Setting

Wild + Rooted Nature School is located on 23 private acres designed to give children the space to breathe, move, explore, create, and reconnect with the natural world around them.

Our setting includes wide open farm fields, natural green space, large clusters of trees for exploration and imaginative play, and endless opportunities for hands-on outdoor learning throughout the seasons.

At the heart of the property is our cozy schoolhouse space — a calm, welcoming home base for shelter, rest, warming up on colder days, and moments when children need a quieter environment to reset and regroup.

This is not a traditional classroom.

It is a space where children can build forts beneath the trees, follow curiosity through the fields, watch the seasons change around them, create with their hands, move their bodies, ask questions freely, and experience the kind of childhood that feels grounded, connected, and alive.

Every part of the environment has been chosen intentionally to support creativity, emotional well-being, exploration, imagination, and meaningful connection — both with nature and with themselves.

Sage
Mylah

Two very special members of Wild + Rooted Nature School are our little four-legged companion, Mylah and Sage.

Mylah is a small 10-pound Jack Russell and Sage is a mini Aussie who both absolutely love children, nature, adventure, and being part of the day alongside us. Whether they are walking the fields with the group, curling up beside a child during quiet moments, joining us for outdoor exploration, or simply bringing laughter and comfort into the space, they will often be nearby as part of our school rhythm.

More than just “school dogs,” Mylah and Sage bring a gentle sense of connection, emotional comfort, playfulness, and calm to the environment. Many children naturally feel safe with animals, and her presence often helps create moments of grounding, confidence, co-regulation, companionship, and joy throughout the day.

Mylah was my daughter’s dog, which is why I am intentionally weaving her into this space and into the heart of Wild + Rooted Nature School. Her presence feels like a beautiful extension of the softness, connection, playfulness, and emotional safety this program was created to hold for children.

As with everything at Wild + Rooted, interactions with Mylah and Sage will always be gentle, respectful, supervised, and child-led. Children are never required to engage with her, but for those who are drawn to animals, she will often become a beloved little companion throughout their time here.

Tanya Meilleur
Founder of Wild + Rooted Nature School

This program was created from both deep passion and deep loss.

After losing my 13-year-old daughter to suicide following years of bullying and feeling unsupported within the school system, my entire perspective on childhood, emotional well-being, safety, and education changed forever.

I know what it means for a child to feel unseen.

I know how deeply children need spaces where they feel safe, supported, connected, and valued for who they are.

Through both my personal journey and years of work centered around nervous system regulation, behaviour, emotional well-being, mindfulness, and nature-based connection, I became deeply passionate about creating something different for children.

Wild + Rooted is more than an educational program.

It is a space intentionally built to support the whole child.

A space where children are encouraged to move, explore, create, ask questions, build confidence, connect with nature, and feel safe being themselves.

My goal is not simply to teach children.

It is to help create an environment where they feel seen, heard, respected, supported, and genuinely excited to learn.

Because every child deserves to feel like they belong.

Wild + Rooted Nature School is designed as a supplemental, nature-based educational enrichment program intended to support and complement public, private, and homeschool learning journeys through hands-on, experiential education.

Programming takes place primarily outdoors and may be adapted based on weather, seasonal conditions, and group needs.

Space is limited and registration is subject to availability.
