Wild + Rooted Nature School
Wild + Rooted is a half-day nature program where children are given the time and space to explore, play, create, discover and build a meaningful relationship with the natural world.
Nature itself becomes our teacher.
Across the changing seasons, children will learn directly from the land around them — following their curiosity, exploring what is growing and living around them, developing practical outdoor skills and experiencing the natural world with their own hands.
Our afternoons are intentionally spacious and pressure-free. There is time for guided experiences and hands-on learning, but also time to wander, play, build, investigate, get dirty, work together and simply see where curiosity leads.
WHAT WE’LL EXPLORE
Each week will offer a different mix of experiences.
Nature Exploration & Discovery
Seasons, weather, plants, trees, soil, insects, wildlife, animal tracks and signs, ecosystems, growing and gardening, and the ever-changing landscape around us.
Outdoor Skills
Gentle introductions to skills such as knot tying, shelter building, fire building, outdoor cooking, navigation, foraging and other practical ways of becoming more comfortable and capable outdoors.
Creating + Building
Nature art, working with natural materials, building, making, experimenting, problem-solving and creating with what the land provides.
Nature Connection + Play
Unstructured outdoor play, sensory exploration, mindful nature connection, movement, imagination, collaboration and plenty of time to explore.
Wild + Rooted is a place for children to slow down, become curious about the world around them and experience the kind of learning that happens naturally when we give them the freedom to explore.
To get outside. To get curious. To get dirty. To feel wild and rooted.
Our Setting
Wild + Rooted Nature School is located on 23 private acres designed to give children the space to breathe, move, explore, create, and reconnect with the natural world around them.
Our setting includes wide open farm fields, natural green space, large clusters of trees for exploration and imaginative play, and endless opportunities for hands-on outdoor learning throughout the seasons.
We also have access to our Wild + Rooted Clubhouse, a finished indoor space equipped with both heat and air conditioning, allowing us to comfortably move activities indoors year-round when needed.
This is not a traditional classroom. It is a space where children can build forts beneath the trees, follow curiosity through the fields, watch the seasons change around them, create with their hands, move their bodies, ask questions freely, and experience the kind of childhood that feels grounded, connected, and alive.
Every part of the environment has been chosen intentionally to support creativity, emotional well-being, exploration, imagination, and meaningful connection — both with nature and with themselves.
Meet the Facilitator

Tanya Meilleur
Founder of Wild + Rooted Nature School
Tanya Meilleur is the founder of The Healer Within, where she supports both adults and children through nervous system regulation, emotional well-being, mindfulness and self-awareness practices.
Following the loss of her 13-year-old daughter to suicide after years of bullying and feeling unsupported within the school system, Tanya became deeply passionate about creating safer, more supportive environments for children. This experience profoundly shaped her understanding of the importance of emotional safety, connection, belonging and ensuring that every child feels seen, heard and valued.
During her time at Tiny Oaks Forest School, Tanya worked alongside students to help them develop emotional awareness, self-regulation skills, mindfulness practices, healthy coping strategies and meaningful connections with themselves, others and the natural world. She also worked alongside the teaching team, helping to support and teach students during academic learning periods. Through a compassionate, relationship-based approach, Tanya helped create spaces where children felt safe to express themselves, build confidence and grow into who they are.
Wild + Rooted Nature School is designed as a supplemental, nature-based educational enrichment program intended to support and complement public, private, and homeschool learning journeys through hands-on, experiential education.
Programming takes place primarily outdoors and may be adapted based on weather, seasonal conditions, and group needs.
Space is limited and registration is subject to availability.
