Restorative yoga is a gentle, calming practice that encourages deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and healing. Unlike more active forms of yoga, restorative yoga focuses on slowing down, offering a space where you can deeply rest and restore both the body and mind. The practice involves holding passive postures for extended periods, using props like blankets, bolsters, and blocks to fully support the body and create comfort.
The aim of restorative yoga is not to stretch or strengthen muscles but to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes relaxation and healing. By holding poses for longer durations, the body is encouraged to release tension, increase blood flow, and improve flexibility, all while the mind quiets and softens. These long-held postures, combined with conscious, slow breathing, enable practitioners to deeply tap into their body's natural healing processes.
